The heat is paying us in flowers.  With all the extra sunshine and warmth we've been getting, our drought tolerant plants have really been coming on.  The white flowers in the foreground are a native bedstraw that we call wild baby's breath or northern lights.  The yellow behind this is little sunflower, follwed by blanketflower, and Oregon sunshine is the yellow towards the back.  The white row in front of the Oregon sunshine is Wyeth's buckwheat.  The taper leaf penstemon is just about finished blooming and the prairie smoke is getting ready to be harvested.  On the prairie there is always something blooming so we look forward to the flowers still to come.  Snow bank to snow bank blooms is a gift that keeps on givin'.  Western aster and Missouri goldenrod are a couple of  plants in the plot that will bloom in late summer.  We welcome these and the other late bloomers that provide color when the other plants have gone dormant.
We hope you enjoy the colors as much as we do!
