Before harvesting our 2 acre field of blue wild rye (Elymus glaucus) we want to be sure that the field is as clean as possible.  Katie, Matt, Christy and Guy shown here make up a stellar roguing crew as they endeavor to rid the field of weeds.  The tall grass is thick and inhibits many weeds in the center of the field by reducing the sunlight, water and nutrients available for the invading plants.  Field edges and thin spots allow space for weeds to move in however so our job is to find these weeds and dispatch of them before they set seed.  This field will be ready to harvest in a few weeks and we can't wait to check another species off the harvest list!
